Helambu Trekking

Day 01: We are on the first day of the package. Nepal Gateway Trekking representative will receive you with warm greetings at the airport or elsewhere within Kathmandu. Then you are taken to the hotel wed have already booked for you. The seven day program will be described briefly at the hotel. You will rest at the hotel for the night.

Day 02: On this day, we take you on a drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal (1300m) in the morning. This is the point from which our trekking begins. Sundarijal is the water supply station with a dam and small hydro power station in the north-eastern foothill of Kathmandu valley. Through the jungle in Shivapuri National Park, we trek to Chisopani (2110m) which will take us around 4 hours. Chisopani is a Tamang village that has fine hotels and guesthouses. The great view of the places around from Chisopani invites many visitors from the valley for a night stay at this place. We will be staying at a guesthouse there and observing the location and lifestyle around this village.

Day 03: We trek to Kutumsang (2540m), a terraced hillside village in Helambu. First ascending to reach a pass at an altitude around 2600 meters and then descending to Kutumsang, it will be a 6-hour trekking. Once you reach Kutumsang, you will notice the Buddhist cultural influence reflected in the stupas and gompas. We will find a good guesthouse at Kutumsang for our overnight accommodation.

Day 04: On this day, we will be climbing uphill and ascend around 1000 meters further. You will be glad to see the approaching Himalayas and nearing destination. We will be stopping at Tharepati (3597m) for the night after a 4-hour journey. Tharepati is a beautiful village with fine guesthouses and the settlement of Buddhist community. This place offers a great view of Langtang surroundings and hills around. We will be staying at a guesthouse

Day 05: Tarke Gyang (2620m), the largest village in Helambu Region, will be our destination of the day. From Tharepati, the way leads down for 5 hours. This is a well facilitated village around the place and offers you a great view of the mountains in Langtang Region. Hyolmo Mani, a Buddhist Stupa, is one of the attractions there. You will thoroughly enjoy the nature, culture and the people at this majestic place. Our overnight accommodation will be at one of the best guesthouses in the village.

Day 06: Having enjoyed our stay at Tarke Gyang, we will have two options to get back to Kathmandu. The first one is via local bus route that will pass through  Kiul Takpa Kharka and ultimately connect us to Arniko highway. But we will be taking the alternate route and trek to Sermathang village (2651 meters) in Kiwool of Sindhupalchok district. The journey will be 4-hour long. Our accommodation will be arranged at a guesthouse there.

Day 07: We will be resting for a day whilst observing and exploring the local culture of the native Tamang and Sherpa people. The village offers majestic views over the Helambu valley to the west and the high mountain ranges including Langtang to the north. Villagers here practice agriculture, cultivating vegetables the most and some have been engaged in tourism business. Tourism has been a great means of economic growth for the villagers, hence, encouraging them to preserve and present the native culture. We will be staying there observing each of these aspects around the locality. Our accommodation will be at a guesthouse there.

Day 08: On the 8th day, we will be leaving Sermathang and trekking down to Melamchi Bazaar (846m). This is the biggest market area in Helambu region. On reaching there, we will be driving back to Kathmandu through Arniko highway. Our journey ends upon reaching our hotel at Kathmandu.

Day 09: On this last day of our package, our delegates will transfer you to International Airport for your onward destination. With all the memories of short yet great trekking, we bid you goodbye.

- All pickup and drop expenses.
- 2 nights accommodation at a 4 Star hotel in Kathmandu with  Bed and Breakfast plan. 
- All land transportation expenses as mentioned in the package.
- Breakfast, lunch and Dinner with all accommodation charges during the trekking.
- Cost of a highly experience well trained and licensed trekking guide, Sherpa and required number of porters (1 porter between 2 people). All Trekking in Nepal team will be responsible for their meals, accommodations, salaries, insurances and equipments during the trip.
- First Aid kit.
- Langtang National Park permit, entry fees and all government taxes.
- Duffle bag, Sleeping bag, Down Jacket and Walking Pole (if needed)

- Expenses for meals excluding breakfast  in Kathmandu.
- Travel and safety  insurances.
- International flight tickets to and from Kathmandu.
- Nepal entry visa fee.
- Your personal first aid kit, equipment and items of personal use.
- All drink and beverages expenses (including Water/Coke/alcoholic beverage and hot drinks) if any.

Q. When do i visit Nepal?
Ans - Nepal is governed by the Southerly Monsoon weather system which brings heavy precipitation between the months of June and September, i.e. it rains a lot. Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-November) are the best time to visit Nepal.
   
Q. Can i do a trekking in Nepal?
Ans - Previous trekking and mountaineering experience is not necessary to do a trekking in nepal. If you are reasonably fit and enjoy walking, you can do any trek in Nepal. Normally the shorter treks tend to be easier whilst the longer ones often require a better standard of fitness.
  
Q. Where do i stay and sleep during the trekking?
Ans - You stay either guest house or tent during the trekking. The most popular trekking areas like Annapurna, Everest and Langtang provide best sleeping accommodation. You stay and sleep in tent during the trekking, if you go restricted areas like Dolpo, Upper Mustang, Manaslu etc.
   
Q. Are the foods and water safe to eat and drink during the trekking?
Ans - Yes, the foods are eatable and water is safe to drink during the trekking. All meals are prepared to high standards, fruit and vegetables are soaked in iodine before preparation. Most lodges serve boiled and filtered water, which is generally safe to drink, we suggest a drop of iodine to be totally sure.
  
Q. What is Altitude Sickness?
Ans - Altitude Sickness is also known as Acute Mountain Sickness (A.M.S.). It may occur when people ascend too quickly. The symptoms of AMS can be seen in our body after 2800m. Headache, shortness of breath and possibly light headed are fairly common. Acute mountain sickness is very different and normally involves a severe headache, sickness and loss of awareness. Descending to a lower altitude will generally be enough to prevent any further problems. HAPE (High Altitude Pulmonary Edema) and HACE (High Altitude Cardio Edema) are the major symptoms of altitude sickness.
