Eastern Bhutan Tour
Bhutan, an ethereal Himalayan kingdom can be considered the most biodiverse country in the world with 770 species of birds along with the large number of mammals. Almost a third of national territory is protected with national park system that contains lots of sacred rivers, lakes, caves, peaks and forests. So the country is a good trekking site for the expeditors. In addition to that, the other things to be explored in Bhutan are its internal diversity. Bhutanese traditions and rituals, customs and cultural festivals are of great importance and are still very strong. So in this tour, we’ll be visiting the various monasteries, temples cultural heritages in the eastern region of Bhutan.
Day 01: Paro We will be there to welcome your arrival at Paro Airport and then we’ll get you to your hotel. In the hotel, we’ll have a short brief about the upcoming programs. Then we’ll make a visit to Ta Dzong (National Museum) and Rinpung Dzong . You’ll stay overnight in the hotel.
Day 02: Paro - Thimphu In the morning, we will have an excursion to Taktsang Monastery. Also called ‘The Tiger’s Nest’, this monastery is a prominent sacred site for Buddhists. Then we head towards Drukgyel Dzong - the fort of Drukpa victory. It is an important fortress from where Bhutanese had resisted the invading Tibetan armies long time ago. We also go to see Kyichu Lhakhang, a 7th century shrine. A traditional Bhutanese Farm house is also worth visiting. In the early evening, we will drive to Thimphu, the capital town of Bhutan. A hotel room will be available for your night stay.
Day 03: Thimphu - Punakha Today, we are going to visit the important sites in Thimphu that include Tashichho Dzong - the seat of the governing head and National Memorial Chorten where you can admire the fine statues, wall paintings and arts depicting Buddhist philosophy. We are also going to the Handicrafts Emporium, National Library, Traditional Medicine Institute and the Painting School (Zorig Chusum). In the evening, we will drive to Punakha crossing Dochula Pass at 3050 meters and enjoy the breathtaking views over the high peaks. You will stay in a hotel in Punakha.
Day 04: Punakha - Wangdiphodrang Tongsa Punakha was the capital of Bhutan until 1955. On this day, we will visit the famous Punakha Dzong that lies at the confluence of two rivers - Pho Chu and Mo Chu. From there, we proceed to Wangdiphodrang visiting a Dzong that lies on the way. We move ahead crossing 3300 meters high Pelela Pass and en route visiting Chendebji Chorten. By the evening, we reach Trongsa and stay in a hotel.
Day 05: Trongsa - Bumthang Trongsa Dzong, built in the 17th century by Shabdrung is the first destination for today. Afterwards, we visit Ta Dzong, another fortress and a watchtower on the hillside. From Trongsa, we proceed towards Bumthang along a 68 km road that takes about three hours. The road passes through dense forest, 3400 meters high Yutong-La pass before opening into Bumthang valley. This valley is also known as the holy heartland of Bhutan.
Day 06: A day at Bumthang We have allocated a full day for sightseeing various places in Bumthang. It is actually a group of four smaller valleys - Chumey, Choekhor, Tang and Ura. Today we will take you to Jakar Dzong - the castle of the white bird and then to Kurje Lhakhang - a sacred place. From there, we go to see Jambey Lhakhang - another 7th century temple built by Songtsen Gampo. 16th century Tamshing Lhakhang full of Buddhist wall paintings and arts will be the final destination. If there is enough time, you can walk through the market area in Bumthang. Night stay will be arranged in one of the finest hotels.
Day 07: Bumthang - Paro. After having breakfast at Bumthang, we will have a long drive to Thimphu and then to Paro. On the way, we can enjoy the beautiful landscapes, villages with traditional houses and fields. You can also visit local market areas and do some shopping. The drive will take all day long and you will reach Paro in the evening. There you will stay in a hotel for the last night in Bhutan.
Day 08: Departure to Paro Airport The tour comes to the end from where it started eight days ago. You will be transferred to the Paro International Airport for your onward destination. We wish you for your safe journey and hope that we will meet again. |
